Parents of the Year 2004 -
     Reverend Joshua and L’Tanya Haire, of Fayetteville, North Carolina

Reverend Joshua and L’Tanya Haire, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, exemplify all the qualifications for Parents of the Year. Their sacrificial love has been demonstrated again and again in their 26 years of marriage. Through times of emotional challenge (the deaths of two of their children and the near-death of a third) and material challenge (financial difficulties connected to medical bills) they have stood strongly united as a couple and totally devoted to their children and their community. They expanded their family of six surviving biological children by legally adopting another son. Stretching their love even more, they “spiritually adopted” three young women and their children, who were facing a host of difficulties.  Theirs is a family that pulls together. For example, Joshua, with the support of L’Tanya and all of their children, left a good professional job to answer the call to become a full-time pastor. The Haires have made a tremendous impact on their community. They established the Creative Learning Center, which has provided a dramatic positive influence on the lives of hundreds of children, adults, and senior citizens.
