Parents of the Year 2006 -
Glade and Carol Soelberg of Arizona

GLADE AND CAROL SOELBERG  are the parents of 13 children ranging in age from 37 to 12 years and are currently the grandparents of 30 grandchildren. Both are very involved in providing leadership in their church and community. Glade has held many positions of leadership in their church including being a Bishop for 5 years (unsalaried) and serving for two years in mission work to the Spanish speaking in Texas and New Mexico. He has coached Little League, basketball, and soccer. He has served as Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts (3 of his sons are Eagle Scouts) and has done volunteer work for a number of organizations. To support his growing family, for the past 33 years he has built his own home construction business- "Ray Quality Homes".

Carol is also very active with her church, having served as President of both the Children's Organization and Women's Organization and other positions. She also served as a Cub Scout Leader and other roles with the Boy Scouts. In 2003, she served as Chair of the Defend Marriage Project and last year she accepted the role of President of the United Families Arizona -which is a non-paid position requiring 30 hours work per week. She organized over 300 volunteers as the Humanitarian Aid Service Project Coordinator from 2000-2004, She has been the Volunteer Elementary School Choir Director for the last 10 years.

While both Glade and Carol have served their church and community in these and many other ways, their efforts as parents show most clearly through the incredible accomplishments of their 13 children. Some examples........ The oldest 9 children have all earned 4-year bachelor degrees, with the 4 youngest all on their way to the same goal. All 13 children sing and play the piano (some play other instruments as well). 3 children have served full-time 2-year international missions with their church (2 in Brazil , one in Chile ). All 13 children have served in various school leadership positions including 2 High School Student Body Vice-Presidents, Student Body Secretary, Class Presidents, etc. 3 children have received Leadership Scholarships, while 6 have received music or academic scholarships. The oldest nine children are married with 30 children between them.  All 13 children are recipients of the Gospel in Action/Faith in God Award. The oldest 7 daughters are recipients of the Young Woman Recognition Award (with requirements similar to the Eagle Scout award). All 13 children are active in contributing and giving back to their church and community.
